My name is Mark, and welcome to artsci!
Growing up, I heard many people say that art and science just don't mix; that they exist on two opposite sides of the learning spectrum. I have always loved a real challenge, and so I sought to find out how these two ends of the spectrum can find a happy middle.
I like telling stories with illustration. I love teaching with illustration. The work I do takes complex and sophisticated scientific ideas and translates them into beautiful and informative visuals that command attention, educate audiences, and leave a lasting impression. I create illustrations and animations for the medical, pharmaceutical, research, and scientific industries, and love doing it!
I have a hefty history working in science and research, having completed a Bachelors in Arts & Science and Biology in 2013, and a Masters in Geochemistry and Astrobiology in 2015. My research experience has made me aware of the value and importance of scientific communication, especially from a visual basis. I completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Communications in 2017, and since then I founded artsci to share my passion for scientific visual communication as a freelancing scientific illustrator. I believe that with visual design and communication, we can tell better stories, accelerate learning, and make science accessible to everyone!
